The south bank show was, for more than three decades, the premier arts programme on British commercial television. Each episode was a 50-minute profile of a notable figure or subject in the world of the arts and media. 

Melvyn Bragg talks with the playwright, author and screenwriter Alan Bennett who, for more than 40 years, has been a much-loved stalwart of stage, screen and television. They talk about Bennet's playwrighting career, and particularly his current success, THE HISTORY BOYS.
