EPISODES

1. "1977-1978" (first broadcast 10 November 1983)

"The unlikely friendship between Johnny Jarvis and Alan Lipton begins in their last year at a comprehensive in Hackney. Jarvis, the loveable clown with a surprising talent for welding…Lipton, the apparently talentless reject, fantasising about the future and the father he has never met. At the end of the year they have to confront the adult world"

2. "1978-1979" (first broadcast 17 November 1983)

"Lipton and Jarvis encounter the amazing Stella for the first time. Turner finds work - of a fairly eccentric kind. Jake remains mysterious and evasive. For both Lipton and Jarvis their relationships with their fathers take a dramatic turn."

3. "1979-1980" (first broadcast 24 November 1983)

"Life at the squat for Stella and Lipton isn't easy. Jake has disappeared again. Both Lipton and the mysterious "Colonel" want to find him - and the Colonel isn't too fussy about his methods. However, Turner is in work - if not earning money; and Jarvis is busy at Technical College, where he acquires a girlfriend."

4. "1980-1981" (first broadcast 1 December 1983)

"Lipton and Guy become the self-appointed leaders of a band at the hostel, singing Alan's songs. Stella moves in to live with Johnny - and his mother. Then a surprising newcomer turns up at the hostel"

5. "1981-1982" (first broadcast 8 December 1983)

"Having begun as a sort of serial for Grange Hill graduates, this tale of two lads from London's East End has taken off on an almost surreal tangent, with a shadowy drug dealer called The Colonel holding the rock writer Lipton a prisoner in his mother's council flat. Jarvis is also flat-bound, and flat-broke, compelled to baby-sit while Stella goes out to work"

6. "1982-1983"(first broadcast 12 December 1983)

"Johnny and Stella move in to live with Alan in his new flat. But it's not easy to revive old friendships, and the tensions run high."

With Marcus Francis. Gerard Kelly, Eric Richard, Andrew Paul, Perry Benson, Michele Winstanley, Linda Robson, Ray Burdis and others

It was broadcast in 1981

in various ITV regions at various times and days, usually late at night.

The series showed the normal problems that faced us when we left school in the early 80s. No job, no future, no hope…. but plenty of parties, a bit of agro and the chance of a quick snog with Cathy!!

It followed the fortunes of 2 young men on the dole, who are desperate to hit the big time and make money using any scams or schemes going. Made by the same people behind Minder, writer Alan Janes penned all 12 episodes - and also wrote Minder episodes as well. For some bizarre reason, only one series was ever made - probably due to the fact that the show was repeated in 1987 on ITV in a prime time TV slot, but didn't get enough viewer ratings for the team behind it to make some more. It's a perfect slice of 80s comedy/drama, made so good by the incredible talent of Olsen who was perfect as Jimmy Pince.

1. THE P TO S DAY: Pincy and Billy set up a dating company, as well as a burglar alarm fitting company, but as ever seem to spend all their time getting out of scrapes.

3. UNCLE HARRY'S SYSTEM: Pincy thinks he has found a foolproof way to make money betting on greyhounds.

4. DIRTY WEEKEND: Pincy and Billy plan a camping holiday with their girlfriends

5. RODENT ENGINEERS: Pincy and Billy decide to start their own ratcatching business

6. STANDING ON YOUR OWN ONE FOOT: Pincy and Billy move into a new flat and have a run in with the would-be local councillor who happens to be a racist

7. SUBTERRANEAN PIG SICK BLUES: Pincy thinks he has stumbled on the perfect bank robbery, whilst also launching a scam involving dirty magazines

8. FRYING TONIGHT: Pincy and Billy get a job at the local chippy, and end up giving marriage guidance to the owner George.

9. FOUR MEN IN A BOAT: Pincy and Billy get casual work as waiters on a wedding boat

10. FOLLOW THE YELLOW BRICK LANE: Billy falls in love with the headstrong would-be pop star Bev

11. RUNNING ALL THE WAY PART ONE: Pincy and Billy get sent to prison after being fitted up by the police

MOTHER LOVE TV SERIES

A British yuppie couple have a presumably idyllic existence. Yet there is one troubling factor in their lives - an eccentric, and possibly, difficult mother-in-law. Her odd behavior is confirmed in a series of incidents involving her ex-husband, a concert musician, and her ex-husband's new wife, an artist. Flashbacks reveal bits of her troubled past. Little by little, the young couple's life begins to fall apart and the mother-in-law begins to act out her feelings of intense jealousy in the form of revenge, implicating a dear old friend, and leading to murder.

Shoestring was a BBC television show set in Bristol. It featured a private detective with his own show on Radio West, the local radio station.

The programme ran between 30 September 1979 and 21 December 1980, in two series with 21 one hour-long episodes. Star Trevor Eve decided not to return to the role after two series, as he wanted to diversify into theatre roles, so the same production team changed the format to be based in Jersey and created Bergerac, also about a detective returning to work after a bad period in his life.

  • Trevor Eve – Eddie Shoestring, a computer expert who suffers a nervous breakdown and turns to detective work instead. He is hired as "Private Ear" for Radio West and investigates cases for the public free of charge. He is sometimes called "bootlace"
  • Michael Medwin – Don Satchley, the owner of Radio West. He sometimes finds that Shoestring's cases conflict with his commercial interests.
  • Doran Godwin – Erica Bayliss, Shoestring's landlady who got him the job at Radio West where, as a solicitor, she sometimes provides legal advice. There are some hints of a romance between them.
