The typical story began with a villain (often one of a short list of recurring super-criminals) committing a crime, such as stealing a fabulous gem or taking over Gotham City. This was followed by a scene inside Police Commissioner Gordon's office where he and Chief O'Hara would deduce exactly which villain they were dealing with. Gordon would press a button on the Batphone, a bright red telephone located on a pedestal in his office. The scene then cut to stately Wayne Manor where Alfred the butler would answer an identical Batphone beeping loudly on the desk in Bruce Wayne's study. Frequently, Wayne and his ward Dick Grayson would be found talking with Dick's Aunt Harriet (who wasn't aware of their dual identities). Alfred would interrupt with some pretext so they could excuse themselves and answer the Batphone. Upon learning which criminal he would face this time, Bruce would push a button concealed within a bust of Shakespeare that stood on his desk causing a bookcase to slide back and revealing two poles. "To the Batpoles!" Wayne would exclaim, at which he and Grayson would slide down to the Batcave, activating a mechanism on the way that dressed them in their costumes. Often, at this point, the animated title sequence would begin.

Brendon Chase is a children's novel by Denys Watkins-Pitchford, writing as "BB". It was published in 1944, but is set in 1922 (this year being revealed by the fact that a letter to the boys' parents was written on a Friday and dated October the 20th). It was later made into a 13-part TV serial (described as being set in 1925), adapted by James Andrew Hall, produced by Southern Television in association with RM Productions and Primetime Television in 1980, and shown on ITV in the United Kingdom from December 31, 1980 to March 25, 1981 (other than in Wales where HTV Wales transmitted it between April and July 1981, after it had been displaced by Welsh-language programmes before the inception of S4C). The series was also shown in many other European countries, including Germany, The Netherlands, Sweden and Norway.

Love in a Cold Climate (1980)

Nancy Mitford

The first British TV adaptation of Nancy Mitford's autobiographical trilogy Love in a Cold Climate took the form of a seven-part, seven-hour miniseries in 1980. Set in the 1930s, the story concerned a group of wealthy young ladies and their various and sundry interactions with eccentric (to say the least) relatives and amorous young men. Faultlessly faithful to the source, this series explored the real-life Mitford family's unfortunate associations with Fascists in general and Adolf Hitler in particular.

Making Out  is a British tv  series, shown by the BBC between 1989 and 1991.

The series, written by Debbie Horsfield, mixed comedy and drama in its portrayal of the women who worked on the factory floor at New Lyne Electronics in Manchester, tackling the personal lives of the characters as well as wider issues of recession, redundancy and retrenchment as the factory goes through various crises and take-overs.

Operating from a rundown office in London, Roger, Roger, written by John Sullivan (Only Fools and Horses), tells the tales of the struggling mini-cab firm, Cresta Cabs, that are as unreliable as the people who work there. The owners, Sam and Dexter, have built up the company over the years, but lately things have been going steadily downhill. Dexter has suffered a nervous breakdown leaving stressed-out Sam desperately trying to keep his employees in line whilst promoting - in his opinion - the good name of the company. However, the business would have sunk a long time ago if it wasn't for the efforts of Sam's right-hand woman, Reen (Pippa Guard).

Three inspectors (Deborah Norton, Steven Beard and James Saxon) are about to visit the school as the Department of Education is looking to close a school in the area. Meanwhile, it transpires that Dan has been spreading rumours about religious education teacher Jason Cockfoster.

Ten - Dream

Upon arrival she is partnered with introverted DC Mark Callaghan (Mark Womack), a no-nonsense officer brought up on the streets of the city he now polices; the opening sequence of the first episode culminates in Callaghan throwing a suspect from an apartment window.

The earlier episodes centre around the dual themes of the personality clash between De Pauli and Callaghan, coupled with the ongoing saga of the squad's pursuit of local gangster John Sullivan (played by Paul Usher). The squad is called to a disturbance at a club owned by a major drug supplier.

Series 1 - Episode 3 - DC Callaghan and de Pauli interview a convicted paedophile in connection with the disappearance of a young boy. Callaghan is appalled to learn that local drugs baron Sullivan has put money into his brother's new bar.

Series 1 - Episode 4 - DC de Pauli investigates a case of petty violence and is drawn into John Sullivan's the gangland past.

Series 1 - Episode 5 - The vice squad investigates the murder of a prostitute. DCs Callaghan and de Pauli find their private lives dragged into the station.

Glipton Grasshoppers are a struggling boys' football
team who are going nowhere fast - until one day a
Geordie ex-football pro called Jossy Blair comes into their lives and turns them into...Jossy's Giants!

So begins Sid ''TV's Mr Darts'' Waddell's classic kids footballing comedy, which ran for two series on BBC1 between 1986 and 87. Although there were only ten episodes of the programme ever made, Jossy's Giants is still remembered fondly by people of a certain age all over the UK and beyond.

During the course of its run, the series featured stories ranging from Jossy's fondness for gambling on the gee-gees, to his rivalry with arch nemesis Dave
Sharkey, manager of local rivals the Ecclestone Express, and, in series two, a major crisis which arises when the Giants all discover girls and suddenly
lose all interest in the beautiful game! The programme is also well remembered for its cameo appearances from the likes of Bobby Charlton and the notoriously wooden then-England captain Bryan Robson.

Filmed in and around the town of Stalybridge in the foothills of the Pennines, the producers of the show
scoured the pitches of the local Sunday league boys' games to find appropriate acting talent for the show. Two of the kids who starred in Jossy's Giants - Julian Walsh (goalkeeper Harvey) and Julie Foy (bucket carrier Tracey) later went on to land roles in Coronation Street, but most of the other young stars
of the show never went on to do more TV work.
